Sally Hawkins is well known English actress for her splendid performance as “Poppy” in the film “Happy-Go-Lucky” in 2008. The film won several international awards including the ‘Golden Globe Award’ for The Best Actress. She was born on 27 April 1976 in Dulwich, England. She was the daughter of ‘Jacqui’ and ‘Colin Hawkins’ who was an authors and illustrators of children’s books. She grew up in ‘Blackheath’ in Southeast London.
She attended “James Allen’s Girls’ School” in Dulwich. Sally completed her graduation from the “Royal Academy of Dramatic Art” in year 1998. She started working in theatre and performed in a Midsummer Night’s Dream, Misconceptions, Country Music, Much Ado about Nothing, and many others.
Sally made her first notable performance of screen was as “Samantha” in Mike Leigh film ‘All or Nothing’ in the year 2002. She also appeared as “Slasher” in film ‘Layer Cake’ in the year 2004.
She got so many awards including ‘Silver Bear’ for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival, the ‘Boston Society of Film Critics Award’ for Best Actress, the ‘Hollywood Film Festival’ and many others.
Her first major television role came in the year 2005 at the time when she played “Susan Tinder” in the BAFTA-nominated BBC drama “Finger smith”.
She appeared in three episodes of the BBC comedy series Little Britain, in addition to Ed Reardon’s Week on BBC Radio 4. She also contributed to the BBC Radio 4 series Concrete Cow. In 2011, Sally Hawkins appeared in “Submarine” and will also have a supporting role in the film adaptation of ‘Jane Eyre’.
