Ellen Drew was an American actress by profession. She was mostly seen acting in movies throughout her career. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on 23rd November 1915. The name given to her at the time of her birth by her parents was Esther Loretta Ray.
Ellen never came directly to acting. She won a number of beauty pageants before entering the world of acting. She did numerous other jobs in order to earn a living for herself. She went to Hollywood with the dream of becoming an actress. She started working in an ice cream parlour. She used to struggle but she always had been an independent woman so she always made sure that she never had to rely upon anyone to fulfil her needs.
While working at the parlour William Demarest noticed her and saw the hidden talent in Ellen and decided to help her to get into the entertainment industry. Paramount Pictures made a lot of use of her talent from the years 1938 to 1934; they made about six films per year with her during this time. Those movies include hits like The Lady’s From Kentucky and Sing You Sinners.
During the 1950s, her career in films began to decline. She made a decision of moving to television. She did some real good work as a television actress as well. She had the honour of working with some extremely talented actors of her time. Ellen died on 3rd December 2003. She spent the last days of her life in California.
